Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County
Before it was Beverly Hills, the land was a ranch called Rodeo de las Aguas, planted in lima beans. Developers laid out curving streets in 1907, opened the Beverly Hills Hotel in 1912 and incorporated the city two years later. Its 1932 city hall, with a tiled dome, stands a few blocks from the shops of Rodeo Drive. Greystone Mansion, built by the Doheny oil family, is now a public park.
